Choosing the right Hearing Care Professional
Why We’re Different
AudigyCertified™ professionals possess the highest
credentials and are among the country’s most experienced hearing care
professionals. Their expertise is measured by their commitment to patient
satisfaction, continuing education, and the application of current
technologies. These professionals understand that “value” is not measured
by price alone. Rather, value is about how well they meet your
expectations for service, how well they translate their knowledge into
customized hearing solutions and the quality of the experience they offer
to you.
Medical Gardens Hearing and Balance Center provides a
full service hearing rehabilitation program. Each hearing care provider
has been educated extensively in the latest diagnostic hearing measurement
techniques and the most up to date computerized hearing instrument
fittings. Our goal is to understand the impact hearing loss has on one’s
quality of life and make quality hearing systems available to meet those
needs.
Audiological Assessment
At the initial audiometric evaluation, the audiologists
first discuss any concerns about a possible hearing loss. The audiological
assessment consists of a hearing test, and if necessary, immittance
audiometry.
Immittance audiometry is an objective test which measures
the status of the middle ear and contraction of the auditory muscle
(acoustic reflex). This is very useful in determining whether or not fluid
is present in the middle ear cavity and if the tympanic membrane is
intact. Acoustic reflexes are elicited utilizing loud tones. Following the
evaluation, the audiologist explains the test results and recommends the
appropriate medical referral and/or the need for further assessments. If a
hearing system would be beneficial, ear impressions are taken on the first
visit to ensure that the custom-made ear mold or hearing system will be
ready for the hearing system evaluation, selection, and fitting process on
the second appointment. Normally, this first visit takes approximately one
hour. If further testing is recommended to evaluate the integrity of the
auditory nerve and/or the vestibular system, the following tests will be
ordered:
•
Auditory Brain Stem Response (ABR)
• Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE)
• Electrocochleography (EcochG)
• Electronystagmography (ENG)
• GANS Sensory Organization Performance Test
Combined,
these assessments (when necessary) provide a complete picture of how the
ear is functioning and provide information necessary to make an accurate
diagnosis of hearing and balance/dizziness problems. From these results,
appropriate referrals can be made.
Hearing Instrument
Evaluation
-Selection & Fitting
An appointment will be made in approximately one to two
weeks for the hearing instrument evaluation and fitting. This appointment
will take approximately one hour to complete the process. Counseling is
then provided on how to care for and maintain the hearing instrument and
how to best utilize the hearing instrument.
Thirty-Day Follow-up
A thirty-day trial period is provided so that the hearing
instrument can be used in the “real world” of hearing. Normally, during
this period, the patient normally is able to subjectively determine the
amount of benefit received from the hearing instrument. In addition, as
the ear adapts to the instrument, some minor adjustments may be necessary
to achieve optimum performance and satisfaction. Any problems that are
experienced should be written down and provided for the audiologist when
the patient returns to the Center during the trial period. Any complaint
or concern, regardless of how minor it may appear, is vitally important if
the goals of optimum hearing and maximum comfort are to be achieved and
maintained. The visit(s) during the trial period typically require no more
than 30 minutes.
